What is Physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy or Physical Therapy is a therapeutic approach making use of physical means such as exercise, manual skills, ergonomic principles, electro-physical agents like hot-pad, ice-pack, ultrasound (US), short-wave diathermy (SWD), interferential therapy (IFT), spinal traction, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), and even acupuncture, extracorporal shock wave therapy, etc.

The usual aims of physiotherapy include symptomatic relief, patient education, prevention of complications, and rehabilitation through muscle strengthening, joint mobilization, and functional training, etc. such that the physical functions of an individual can be maximized for a better quality of life.

Physiotherapy has the history of more than 100 years in developed countries, while the profession has been established for more than 70 years in Hong Kong. Physiotherapy has become more and more popular in the past decades and is now generally recognized as a comprehensive and effective therapeutic alternative other than medicine and surgical interventions.

In Hong Kong, only registered physiotherapists who hold a valid license from the Physiotherapists Registration Board in addition to a recognized professional qualification in the area can apply physiotherapy service.

 

Our Team

Physiotherapy treatment in our department is carried out by qualified physiotherapists with training and experience both locally and overseas. All of our physiotherapists are locally registered, satisfying the requirements of the Physiotherapists Registration Board of Hong Kong.

The languages covered include Cantonese, Mandarin and English. Besides, we have Japanese interpreters for good communication with our Japanese clients. Some of the Canossian Sisters who work in the hospital are willing to offer their assistance to Italian speaking clients too.

In addition to our regular in-service training with updated knowledge and skills, we encourage continual development of our physiotherapists to ensure high standard of physiotherapy service.

 

Our Service
We offer full rehabilitation services for both in-patients and out-patients. Our services cover a wide range of conditions including orthopaedic, surgical, medical, respiratory, geriatric, paediatric and developmental problems, individual coaching on antenatal and post-natal exercises. Relevant appliances and walking aids are available for loan or sale with professional advices.

To promote better health and quality of life for our clients, we endeavor to provide both comprehensive and specialized services, including health talks, health information pamphlets. acupuncture, cardiopulmonary / fitness training, cardiac rehabilitation program, provision of tailor-made splints, and provision of tailor-made splints, spinal reconditioning program and even Pilates exercises. Upon your first visit to our department

A doctor's referral is required for our physiotherapy service. When you visit our department the first time, one of our physiotherapists will perform a thorough and professional assessment on you to understand and analyze your problem.

Your therapist will explain your condition and choose the most appropriate treatment for you. Professional advice will be provided for management of your problem, and prevention of recurrence. Relevant educational pamphlet may be provided when appropriate. The treatment may include :
