Health Care Assistant of the Maternity Unit at Canossa Hospital was diagnosed with COVID-19

On 11th February, a Health Care Assistant of  Maternity Unit at Canossa Hospital was preliminarily diagnosed with COVID-19.

The staff member from Maternity Unit was responsible for ward routines, including taking vital signs from patients and assisting in the nursery.

The staff member was working the night shift on 10th February the latest.  She experienced low-grade fever and sore throat while at work.  She was suspended working immediately and proceeded to PCR test, which showed a preliminary positive result on 11th February.  The staff member had been wearing effective protective gear and did not carry out any high risk procedure throughout her working shift.  The case was promptly reported to the Centre for Health Protection (CHP) by our Hospital in due course.

As of 11th February, Canossa Hospital had performed PCR tests for related staff, patients and infants whom the infected staff member may have contacted.  No positive case is found among the patients and infants group at the moment.

Adhering to the CHP's guidelines, the  Hospital has already performed deep cleaning procedures in all designated areas.  Canossa Hospital will continue to follow CHP guidelines and closely monitor the situation.
