Cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of death in Hong Kong. The major risk factors for coronary heart disease are smoking, hypertension, lipid abnormalities and diabetes mellitus. Other risk factors are:age, male sex, obesity, stress, lack of exercise, diet, excessive alcohol consumption and family history of heart disease.

Symptoms of heart disease include chest pain, palpitation, shortness of breath and ankle swelling. Studies have shown that severe symptoms arc often a late manifestation of coronary disease and these should no longer be the starting point for rational investigation and treatment. The Framing-ham study has shown that half of sudden cardiac deaths are asymptomatic, 15% of heart attacks are silent and another 25% are unrecognised.

A risk assessment program for coronary heart disease is now designed for those people having such risk factors mentioned above. This includes:

  • Blood lipid profile
  • Homocysteine & HS-CRP
  • Blood glucose
  • Complete blood count
  • Chest X-Rays
  • Electrocardiogram
  • Exercise treadmill test
  • Professional advices

These are performed at a discounted package price of $3,000 Other investigations are also available on request.  Please make appointments with our out-patient department
( Tel: 28252117 ).  Remember to come fasted overnight and also bring along your running shoes.  The whole procedure takes approximately one and a half hour.
