Canossa
Hospital launched her 16k smart card with user photo imprint
for basic medical records of children clients in October 2001-the
first one and still the only smart card for medical purpose
in Hong Kong. The smart card was packaged into the Child Health
Centre program, which took care of vaccination and development
of children aged 0 to 6. Four doctors/pediatricians joining
the provider pool also updated the medical record on the smart
card in their own clinics outside the Hospital. Parents could
view and print the record at home.
Since
early 2002, the Hospital had provided free Broadband Internet
Service for patients staying in Private Room and Semi-private
Rooms. Patients in General Ward might enjoy similar service
at the Cyber Cafe.
The hospital staff did all the network design and cable-laying
work. A separate network was designed to avoid any mishap
in the patient or client network invading the hospital operation
network. Full disclaimers were also stated. Patients who brought
along their own Laptops could just plug in the bedside wall
outlet for the operation of this service. Rental of PC was
also available.
Web
camera service for Boarding Baby was launched in early 2002.
Postnatal mother could view /visit her baby through web camera
at home.
Also
in early 2002, all TV sets in two-bed rooms were replaced
with LCD PC monitor/TV sets for each bed with disposable earphones
in conjunction with the IT development. Together with the
Hospital's tri-lingual homepage (Chinese, English, Japanese),
the only one among the 56 public and private hospitals in
Hong Kong, and 'My First Personal Homepage' for newborns founded
before 2001, and the continuous progress on the electronic
patient record and Internet information transfer with business
partners, Canossa Hospital leads foremost in innovative IT
application in healthcare.
